The story features several characters from the second year class of a magic academy in a fictional magical world with the main characters being the inept mage Louise and her familiar from Earth.
Louise Françoise Le Blanc de La Vallière (ルイズ・フランソワーズ・ル・ブラン・ド・ラ・ヴァリエール Ruizu Furansowāzu ru Buran do ra Bariēru), third daughter of the noble family La Valliere who owns the north-eastern territory of Tristain, is the main female character. She is a second year student at the Tristain Academy of Magic. Louise is a terrible mage who is often scorned by her fellow classmates because every spell she casts fails, so she is nicknamed “Louise the Zero” after her zero success rate and zero attributes. This has led her to be very bitter and in the way she treats her future familiar Saito to an even cruel extent.
During Albion’s invasion of Tristain, Louise discovers that she is an extremely rare Void Mage, which explains her consistent failure to perform other forms of magic. Her void spell is ‘Explosion’, when released, her powers can easily wipe out armies, yet takes time beforehand to cast it. Louise casts off her status as an aristocrat in order to save her classmate, Tabitha, when Tabitha is taken prisoner by her uncle. After they return, the Queen of Tristain adopts Louise as a sister, making Louise second in line to the throne. She is named after Louise de La Vallière, a French noblewoman who was mistress to Louis XIV of France from 1661 to 1667. See details
